Creative workshop with Herstory
To get a clearer vision of what Herstory had in mind for their design, we attended one of their weekly meetings, talking to the group and interpreting their thoughts and ideas of what the design should include. The group decided that the design should include a supportive message, a message that all women can support and be a part of.
The message that was decided on was ‘Sisters lift each other up’, a supportive message which the design needed to reflect. The group discussed colours schemes and decided that the design should be modern but still relate to the history of women and women’s rights.
The colours we decided on were purple and green, the colours of the Suffragettes, linking Herstory to their values, beliefs and legacy.
Initial concept creation
Once we had a clear vision of what Herstory had in mind for the design we started to lay down some initial concepts in the design workshop. We created a multitude of concepts using different layouts, graphics and icons to help reinforce the message that Herstory wanted to use in their design. After we had enough concepts we presented them to the group for their feedback and thoughts.
The response was very positive and they were very happy with the concepts that were created. We asked the group to pick a couple of designs that we could take forward to refine and finalise.
After the design workshop with Herstory, we headed back to the design studio and started to work the chosen design concepts into a digital format so that the design can be used online and on printed marketing material.
Creating a strong logo mark and effective branding
From the chosen concepts, we started to create them digitally, using the chosen ideas and message to give a more refined and completed logo. We wanted to create a positive message and make the design friendly so that it appeals to a wide audience and portrays the correct message.
We used a sans serif font that really suits a modern, clean and friendly style as well as creating a graphic that has smooth lines and rounded edges, helping to reinforce the approachable feel. The colours were carefully selected after researching the Suffragette movement and the style they used in their promotional artwork.
The selected colours complement each other perfectly and also link the design to the history of women’s rights. The design you can see below is the design that we submitted to the Herstory group. A modern and clean design that portrays a friendly and supportive message.
When creating a logo mark and brand, it’s imperative that the logo mark works in multiple situations, ranging from a wide range of displayed sizes, printed medium to digitally displayed and various colour variations.
Herstory on printed marketing material
When a logo mark and solid brand are established, the logo will work across all forms of marketing, from printed business cards to billboards and web browsers, screens and digital devices, we create brands that work across all intended mediums.
Herstory brand guidelines for consistency
When it comes to building a memorable brand, the devils in the details. Consistency is key, our brand guidelines will allow Herstory to grow their businesses branding while keeping their voice and design style consistent, this reinforces their marketing and creates a company brand that sticks in the minds of your target audience.
Herstory’s visit to Parliament
Once in London Herstory visited key London landmarks including Downing Street and Trafalgar Square and saw the statues relating to some of the women they had learned about. The group also went on a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament that culminated with the opportunity for the group to meet their MP, Caroline Flint. While visiting all of the landmarks and Parliament, the Herstory group wore their bags with the design that we created for them printed to the face of them. As you can see, the group were happy to show off their bags in every photo opportunity, to help spread their message of support and positivity.
